Last Day on the Suwannee

Picture
Last Day on the Suwannee
24 x 30 inches
Acrylic on Canvas

"This is one of a very few of my paintings where the feeling comes unabashedly from the scene depicted.

Julia and I had paddled the Suwannee River all the way from its source in the Okefenokee Swamp. She was looking wistfully back up the river--but you can look at it as her looking downriver if you prefer.

This painting refers to a photo but I adjusted things a bit to send the eye around a tightening curve, picking up gear, tent and girl and placing them into the canoe and the canoe into the river.

Is it just because I remember how cold it was, or can you feel it too?"
