"Both the branches and the buildings are necessary; this painting is about their relationship.

The branches have their chaotic jumble, the buildings have theirs.

I try not to paint subjects that would work just as well as a photo, but I can imagine an argument that this one would. The wonderful thing about painting, though, is that only through a painting can the viewer get a sense of the deliberate intentionality of the artist in making tree marks and window marks.

Just take a minute and enjoy the interplay."
